Europallet

At the beginning of the festival, we will present a Europallet worth of music from different corners of Europe.

At the time of writing, there is intense speculation about Liekinheitin’s possible success in the Eurovision Song Contest, but we will open the festival with music that is heard in the competition every year. Can you guess what it is? Our international guest of the summer, the Danish vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices, demonstrates its versatility as an interpreter of both early and contemporary music.

A true rarity in the concert comes from Krzysztof Kieślowski’s 1990s hit film Blue, whose plot revolves around a hymn for the unification of Europe. The work is performed in Greek – so we’ll get a stamp from that country in our imaginary festival passport as well. The closing piece, Ravel’s String Quartet, is among the finest works in the repertoire. We are delighted to have our artistic director Atte Kilpeläinen’s own ensemble, Meta4, perform it.
