Depth, honesty, connection. These three elements have guided Fanny Söderström toward the heart of music ever since she conjured her first meaningful sound from the piano at the age of three. From that moment on, the musical staff became her alphabet, the piano keys her storybooks, and great compositions a means of self-expression—one capable of conveying thoughts and moving thousands of people at once, without a single word.
Söderström is especially passionate about learning new pieces, which has earned her a reputation as an exceptionally quick sight-reader and fast learner of repertoire. She has always felt a strong pull toward modern and contemporary compositions.
Söderström has performed both solo recitals and chamber music across Finland, the Far East, and North America. In 2011, she founded a new symphony orchestra, Oma Orchestra, and in 2019, together with Aapo Järvinen, she launched a chamber music festival in Toivakka. Her regular chamber ensembles include Trio Est, with violinist Abel Puustinen and cellist Anna Westerlund, as well as Uusinta Ensemble, which focuses on contemporary music. Since 2022, Söderström has worked as a chamber pianist at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
Söderström began her studies at the East Helsinki Music Institute and completed her education at the Sibelius Academy under Professor Tuija Hakkila and Antti Hoti. In 2022, she earned her master’s degree from the Berlin University of the Arts, studying with Professor Björn Lehmann. Söderström placed second in the 2017 Tampere Piano Competition and the 2018 Helsinki Lied Competition. She has performed at numerous festivals in Finland and appeared as a soloist with several of the country’s leading orchestras.
