Atte Kilpeläinen

Atte Kilpeläinen’s violin studies began at the Länsi-Uusimaa Music Academy and ended with degrees from the Cologne Music Academy and the Sibelius Academy, where he graduated in 2004 with highest honours.

Since 2005 Kilpeläinen has been the principal viola in the Helsinki City Orchestra. As a guest conductor he has played with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the European Chamber Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. As a soloist, Atte has performed with the Helsinki City Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Oulu and Kuopio City Orchestras, among others.

Member of the string quartet Meta4 Atte Kilpeläinen has been actively performing with the quartet since 2006 in Finland and abroad. Meta4 was also the main guest of the Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra for a two-year period until spring 2024.  

Atte Kilpeläinen joined the teaching staff of the Sibelius Academy in 2012 and has also taught several times at Finnish summer courses. Atte is also a member of the artistic committee of the Helsinki Seriös chamber music series.

2025 will be Kilpeläinen’s second year as artistic director of the festival.
