German violist Nils Mönkemeyer is beloved everywhere, including in Finland. He is a gifted concert soloist, chamber musician, and teacher who enjoys growing roses as a hobby. Currently, he regularly visits the Sibelius Academy for teaching engagements. Mönkemeyer has elevated the viola’s status as a solo instrument by expanding its repertoire with new arrangements, commissioning new compositions, and exploring forgotten and overlooked works. His musicianship and recordings have been widely recognized and awarded.
